New Voters

First Voters

People who vote for the first time soon after they registered to vote are more likely to continue voting during their lifetime. First Voters! provides college students and new citizens with information on how and where to vote.

College Outreach Initiative

The College Outreach Initiative, in partnership with Rhode Island colleges and Campus Compact of Rhode Island, will provide voter education to college students. The Office of the Secretary of State will provide:

  • voter registration forms,
  • educational materials to campus organization conducting registration drives, and
  • a message to students to remind them to vote on Election Day.

New Citizen Initiative

The New Citizen Initiative provides voter registration information to new citizens at their swearing-in ceremony.

Voter Registration for the Formerly Incarcerated

Because of a change in state law, anyone who has been released from prison after serving time for a felony conviction may now be eligible to vote, even if they are still on probation or parole.
