Help America Vote Act

The federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) provides guidelines and funding to help us improve our elections. Thanks to the resources HAVA provides, Rhode Island's elections are among the most accessible, fair and accurate in the nation. We have updated Rhode Island's original 2003 HAVA State Plan in order to expand public participation in the electoral process. The draft 2008 State Plan was prepared with the assistance of a diverse, 75-member Help America Vote Advisory Commission and was reviewed at a public hearing on October 6. The draft 2008 State Plan now goes to the federal Elections Assistance Commission for final approval.
