Mission Statement

A free, democratic society depends on the knowledge, talent, and virtue of its citizens. The mission of Secretary's Elections & Civics Division is to improve civic education in Rhode Island and provide information that voters need to participate in government and hold government accountable. The Elections & Civics Division also encourages Rhode Islanders to participate in the civic life of their communities through volunteer and public service programs. In order to meet this mission, the Elections & Civics Division has developed several programs:

• RI VOTE! A statewide, grassroots voter education and outreach program developed during the November 2004 elections with initiatives directed to military voters (RI Troops Vote!), first time voters (First Voters!) and youth (Youth Vote!).
